Name: Wilbur
Estimated Age: approx. 1 year old
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
On 9-14-09 a bullie pup was picked up by the county as a stray. He would have remained there until his 5 day legal hold was up unless his owner claimed him during that time. Adopt-A-Bull contacted the shelter after reading his medical note that indicated "Demodex & bloated stomach" and inquired about his release on a medical foster. They said we could take him on a medical foster leave, but if his owner came forward during the next 5 days, we'd have to return him to the shelter. We agreed and made the trip down south to pull him from the shelter. Where we in for a shock when we actually saw him.... yes, it's a HIM! Not a pregnant female. So, with mommy Erica freaking the heck out, we immediately loaded up in the car and drove as safe and as quick as we could to Heron Lakes Animal Hospital before they closed for the evening. Once there, we ran tests, blood work, more tests and then Dr. Sands drained nearly 2 full cups of fluid from his belly. At first we suspected some type of intestinal worm infestation, but this is clearly much more serious. Wilbur seriously looks like big fat piglet, he even has the hair loss and coarse fur to go with it - that's why we named him Wilbur. (We had to change him name, the shelter named him Freddy and that's my husband's name...oops!) Wilbur has a heart murmur and the vet suspects a possible heart condition. Treatment for his severe demodex mange will come secondary to finding a definitive diagnosis for Wilbur's overall condition. At this point, an ultrasound is next in order.
9-22-09 UPDATE: Wilbur has been diagnosed with "pulmonic stenosis and right sided heart failure". His condition appears well advanced at this time, particularly with the degree of changes noted at his age. Wilbur is fortunate to have lived this long, and it's predicted that his remaining days are numbered. As long as donations/sponsorships come in for Wilbur we will keep him comfortable, pain-free and happy until he goes to the rainbow bridge or find his forever home with a family that understands his condition. Click here for future updates on Wilbur.
12-21-09 UPDATE: Hi everyone…it’s been a little while since he dropped in with an update, but Wilbur is still doing well, and he has been having a great time playing with his foster brother and sister! As before, Wilbur is still on all his meds around the clock and we continue to monitor the size of his belly daily, but he has been doing really well. Since coming he has gained strength in his legs…he has gone from learning how to pull himself up the stairs to now trying to get him to slow down. Wilbur’s such a good boy when getting his weekly bath, and his hair is even coming in better! Wilbur’s still very much a puppy, and is always up to something, but he is a little cuddle bug that loves to take naps and snore away on mommy or daddy’s lap. He’s always ready to have fun chewing on his bones or wrestling with the other pups, but he especially loves helping out with the dishes. That’s all for now…We’ll try to check back in real soon.. Hopefully with some more continuing good news on the Wilbur front!
5-25-10 Update: Wilbur's color had become very pale and his tongue, a blue-ish tint. We went to the vet and another ulrasound revealed a very enlarged liver. The technologist was ultrasounding all the way down to his penis and could still his liver! Wilbur has an appointment with a cardiologist at the University of Florida next Tuesday morning. We will be driving up and staying in a hotel Monday, Mommie Erica already took the time off of work. Wilbur was doing well since we stablized his condition when he came to us back in Sept, but now he's not doing so well. Please keep WIlbur in your prayers, if he's a canidate for heart surgery they will do it on Wednesday.
6-1-10 Update: We just returned from dropping Wilbur off at the University of Florida Vet Hospital. A pressure gradient of 80 in a dog is bad and considered serious. In September, Wilbur’s pressure gradient was 120; today it was 200!!! Today it was discovered that besides having SEVERE right-sided heart failure, Wilbur has an abnormal coronary artery lying across his pulmonary artery valve. Right now, Wilbur is NOT in pain and although his condition is being managed with medication, there is no doubt that in time, he will die from this. With the further complications recently discovered, there is absolutely no doubt that surgery is risky. However, the only chance to improve Wilbur’s pressure gradient is to operate and perform a balloon valvuloplasty. Oh, did I mention his workup and surgery at UF will cost us $2800. Wilbur is worth some MAJOR fundraising. He is a happy, playful pup thru it all and we are doing everything in our power to save him.
6-8-10 Update: The good news is Wilbur is back home with us and made it thru surgery ok! The surgery was LONG and it took the surgeons a while to get where they needed to go, but thru it all Wilbur remained strong. Unfortunately, his abnormal coronary artery lying across the pulmonary valve really impaired the doc from inflating the balloon to really make a difference in his overall condition and hardly even decreased the gradient pressure. Despite having severe right sided heart failure, the University of Florida doctors say that Wilbur is stable and doing well for such a sick pup. Wilbur will stay on his heart medications and continue to live comfortably and happy in his foster home.

Name: Nora
Estimated Age: 5
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Well, last night (12-22-09) at approx 10:30 pm we pulled up to the house of the guy that was giving his "pure bred English Bulldog" away for free on the internet... Owner says "All bulldog eyes are like this. That's just the way they are. She doesn't have anything wrong with them." He didn't ask ANY info (not even my name). He didn't care who was taking her or why. He didn't give us food, leash, or anything. She didn't even have a collar on her. He carried her right from his house and dumped her in our car, we didn't even see (or know) if the poor girl could even walk. Of course we felt bad and took her. Now the owner won't answer the phone to give us the name of her vet (which he didn't know). PLEASE PEOPLE - DO NOT BREED AND BUY WHILE SHELTER PETS DIE!!! Please please please - take a stand, stop the cycle! Don't shop - ADOPT!
At first, we were extremely hesistant about taking Nora into our rescue, with such a shortage of space already and lack of funds, this Bullie Mix not only needed to be spayed, but she was also in desperate need of having her entropion eyes surgically corrected and we later found out she was heartworm positive!. We took her in after being won over by her personality and sweet, gentle spirit.
12-30-09 Update: 1-19-10 Update: Nora is on hold as she goes thru heartworm treatment.
2-10-10 Update: Nora had an open pyometra and had to undergo emergency spay surgery. She's in foster care recovering now from surgery and heartworm treatments.
3-19-20 Update: Nora is now heartworm negative!!!!
5-3-10 Update (from current fosters): Nora is an absolute doll. She is very well behaved, loves to play with Priscilla, and has no interest in the cats whatsoever! Her eyes are healing very well from her entropion ye surgery, not as red and no scratching! Nora is a lover girl too! My friend from PA came down Thursday, and she said if she was allowed to have dogs she would have taken Nora home. Loves to be around you, but doesn't need to be. Has no issues with going in her crate, doesn't cry just goes in and right to sleep. Nora's only bad habit is that she LOVES the couch. Personally, I don't care, but the hubby does not want the dogs up there. Nora is very agile and jumps up without us even noticing. As soon as her body hits the cushions, she's asleep!! She has done great with other dogs we've met on walks, loves every person she's met, and would be a great girl for a family with little to no bully experience. She is low maintenance due to no tail pocket (her tail wags constantly, and fast too!), and very shallow face wrinkles. Her ears are in great shape as well!! Nora loves to get and give kisses, but knows when to stop. Walks great on a leash, although she does love to sniff everything!!

Brief Description:
My trip to the local county shelter today left me heartbroken and teary-eyed (as usual). So many dogs, mixes, mutts, and pure breeds – it’s so astonishing and sad. The shelter workers have hard jobs to do, I swear if I worked here I'd be even more of an emotional mess than I am already ;) So many dogs, unsterilized, without manners, barking uncontrollably, pacing in their runs, acting out. Others quiet and scared, well behaved and sweet natured sitting in the corner of their cold cells unaware of the eminent danger that hangs over their lives. A younger gentleman approached the front desk, cash in hand, ready to pay his fines in order to reclaim his impounded dog and accept a county citation issued for his dog being at large. Just hours earlier a pure bred 2 year old English Bulldog, who looked more like a pot bellied pig than anything, found her way to the shelter after the landscaper accidently left the gate open. Her time in the shelter was just a couple hours before her mommie came to get her out, but others spend days (their last days) in this place. Yes, I am taking about innocent dogs being euthanized. These dogs, some perfectly healthy, trained, well behaved, and housebroken, are being put to sleep due to lack of space. For whatever reason they found their way to the shelter; whether picked up as a stray running loose, as innocent victims of foreclosure, or dumped because of the financial stress their owners face, these dogs are innocent – it is NOT their fault, yet they pay the price WITH THEIR LIVES!
When I visited the Broward County shelter Pompano Beach location today, I observed that most of the dogs there Iwere in fact pitt mixes. They each have their own story, and even though I did not know their history, I am sure that at some point in their younger days they were once some family's beloved puppy. So how did they end up here? I will never know, I can only speculate, but I CAN help make a difference. A momma pit-bull caught my eye as I made my way down thru the kennel runs. Despite the yelping, barking, obnoxious dogs on either side of her, she maintained her calm poise. She came to the front of her run as I peered in to get a better look. Her nipples were big and sagging…. it was apparant she gave birth recently. Where were her babies I wondered? Could this have been a case where she was disposed of by her owners only after she gave them pups, putting money in their pocket? After she was of no further use to them did they dispose of her? Her kennel card said she came to the shelter as a stray on 1-6-10. “Momma” wiggled her butt and repeatedly brushed her boney sides on the front of the cage door. Dying for just a scratch or to be petted, I couldn’t reach my hand in to stroke her no matter how much I wanted, it was against the rules, I didn't want to get in trouble. Tears in my eyes, I had to move on…. The next dog didn’t look so adoptable, growling at me with his teeth showing, the next had “ADOPTED” written on his kennel card… YEY! Someone wanted him and put a deposit for when he was ready to be released – my heart was happy again! Then another….”ADOPTED!” I made my way back down the kennels to make an exit. I wanted to end this visit on a happy note for a change, after all, I was just there to drop off some donations and to look, nothing more. But as I passed by “Momma” she looked at me with such sad eyes…. she had a look that killed me inside. I had to do something, so I took some pictures to crosspost online and get the word out. Momma and her friends were running on limited time, I knew that. Please, please, please, in my head I prayed that people would consider a visit to their local shelter instead of going to the pet store or a breeder. These dogs need a home more than anything – their LIFE depends on it! If just one of my posts gets forwarded and crossposted, maybe, just maybe I could assist in saving one. Just one… If I could I’d take them all, God knows I would. We have 29 in the program right now, all our foster homes are full, we even have our newest shelter bullie from yesterday in the quarantine shed. (Oh, Truman, you are such a good boy!) We have to make a way…. what’s one more I think, as I try to convince myself. Convincing hubby, on the other hand will be a bigger struggle. Let’s just stick with the pictures I tell myself.
On the way out, I write down “Momma’s” ID number. She doesn’t have a name, only a number to identify her, how sad. I talk to the guy in charge on the way out, asking him to put Adopt-A-Bull Rescue as a rescue contact just in case she’s in danger of losing her life. Just in case, it comes down to life or death for her, I wanted to know….or maybe I didn’t. Shockingly I was informed that she was already in danger!!! Her 72 hours were up already! She was in danger of being euthanized at any moment!!! She came in with no tags, no microchip or tattoo, no collar or anything… her legal time was 72 hours, 3 days, not including they day of admittance. Today was her 4th day…. It was execution day!!!! It was 3:21pm exactly, I remember because my next question prompted me to look down at my watch. I asked what time they closed…….. 4:00pm. I had 39 minutes to figure something out…. …. …. ….
The “guy in charge” told me he’d be most appreciative if I could find a way to save her. He said he’d hold her one more day and postpone putting her to sleep to give me time to figure something out overnight. I asked if I could spend some time with her outside, maybe take her for a walk. We spent a good 30 minutes outside walking around together and cuddling. She really was well behaved and so so so sweet. I snapped some pics of her and we sat down together for some bonding time. It was really cold outside and although I didn't want to return her to her cell, I had to... for now at least. And so, I sit her on my laptop, crying my eyes out just trying to compose this plea to save “Momma.” The shelter is closed on Monday and Tuesdays but he said he’d meet me back here tomorrow and open up if I could find a way to rescue her. I left with his personal cell phone number in my hand and the burning image of “Momma” marked in my head. I don’t know what it is about this dog, but something is telling me to take action - Her life depends on it. Every one already thinks “Adopt-A-Bull Rescue” is a pit-bull rescue instead of an English Bulldog Rescue, so what if we rescued our first pit?
1-11-10 Update: I kept thinking about “Momma” all night long. When I woke up this morning, I called the shelter guy in charge on his cell phone and asked him to meet me at the shelter at 8:30am. I was her last hope, I knew it was meant to be when I met her yesterday 39 minutes before her time was up. (They were closed today, but he opened just for me to save Momma.) I called in a bit late to work and told them I’d be arriving with a special guest for the day.
1-13-10 Update: Avva is absolutely precious! She is such a good girl, estimated by our vets to be around 3 years young. With her three toes and missing front tooth, she’s still the most bull-ti-full pit-bull we’ve ever seen. We went to the vet and had some tests run. Besides some superficial scrapes, hair loss and scabs, she is in good health and she is even 4dx heartworm negative!!! Her blood work came back great, and the vet detected a slight heart murmur, but over all, this girl is in good shape! Avva currently weighs 48.5 pounds and is being treated for hookworms. She has the absolute best personality, and is quite the low-rider for a pit-bull. The vet staff commented on how low to the ground she was, and me, not knowing anything at all about how pits normally look was delighted to hear this. She’s our first pit-bullie!!! Lol! I am so happy we were able to save her.
2-11-10 Personality Profile : Avva is so unbelievably sweet! She just wants to wiggle up and be close to people and look at them. She's a submissive girl with a beautiful silver coat, a great demeanor, and a full life of love and laughter ahead of her. Avva is doing fabulous on her daily walks and she's at a point where she's doing so well with no pulling at all. We had a brief encounter with a neighborhood child and Avva did great, she just wanted to be petted and waited patiently while doing the wiggle butt dance while her tail wagged. One thing we love about Avva, she never ever jumps up on people and is always so very gentle. Awwww... she's laying behind my chair now.... so loyal. She's awesome!
4-23-10 Update: Avva is so happy and sweet, a big, strong muscular kid, wiggly and happy all the time! I think she smiles and when you give her love and attention she just is beside herself with happiness. She has not shown any aggression toward any of the big dogs I let her be out with. They hump her she humps them and no one gets mad. They play but not as much as she would like. I just keep an eye and say EASY to her a lot. She would love a dog to really be her play buddy. Her best friend at the bullie wranch was an 18 pound pug, she does well wth small dogs.
5-15-10: Avva is finally ready for adoption!!! She has been spayed and had a partial tail amputation last week. Avva is a very happy girl, she can't help but wag her tail 24/7... and what a strong tail she had! Her tail would constantly bang against whatever was near her and the tip was always a bloody mess. It didn't really bother or hurt her, but it was a problem because she would leave bloody marks against whatever it touched and was always an open wound. We decided to have it partially amputated per vet recommendation while she was being spayed. Although her little nubby tail is still waging 24/7, it's not a problem anymore... and oh, how cute does it look!
5-21-10 Foster Update: Avva is amazing on the leash, she mainly stays right beside you on a slack leash. She is a very happy dog, and her nub is so funny... it goes with her smile! Avva is very crate trained, I put food in her bowl and she jumps in her crate to eat. She is very quiet while in there, though last night I heard her snore.

Name: Sassy
Estimated Age: DOB: 9-30-2005
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
It's whatever is best for the "family" (ie, the pair coming in). A bonded pair simply means they were bonded together as "fursiblings" before coming into rescue and we want to be able to keep them together rather than putting them thru the trauma of separating them.

Name: Maggie
Estimated Age: DOB: 1-18-2006
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Arrival Story: Sassy and Maggie grew up together. Initially purchased as pups by their owner, these 2 girls have lived their whole lives together. Recently, their owner gained custody of her grandchildren and the bullies fell victim to neglect. The owner decided to drop them off at a pound on the west coast of Florida and that's when Adopt-A-Bull came to their rescue and scooped them up!

Name: Tater Tucky
Estimated Age: DOB: 6-13-02
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Arrival Story: Tater & her mother Harley were victims of abandonment & the poor economy. They were left alone, abandoned, with no food, water or care in a foreclosed home.
Bio: Tater & Harley are very active girls. Depsite their age, they love to run around the yard and explore every inch of undiscovered territory as they go. They get along with other dogs, and absolutely love all the attention they get. They can be adopted as a pair, but it's not absolutely necessary although they have been together all their lives. They have fabulous eyes and skin, but could stand to gain a few pounds and would benefit from obedience training or doggie kindergarden. These grannies will be the oldest gals in school, but you can never be "2 cool for skool".
UPDATE 9-9-09: Harley and Tater have been split up into two separate foster homes. We find that when they are separated, they are much more calm, not so anxious and don't get into as much trouble like when they are together.
What determines if bullies are a bonded pair? If two bullies come into the program together, we try to keep them together/get them adopted together. Maggie & Sassy have lived together as sisters for years,we want to keep them together, they have a bond together.
Harley & Tater we learned did better apart. Together they get in trouble and are extremely protective of each other, which is not good,so they will be adopted separately. Our newest pair, Pig Pen and Peppermint Patty may be bonded, but not necessarily. They came in together, but had only lived together a short time because they are so young as it is (11 months and 16 months). They are very young and they can easily learn to live without each other as long as their is another bullie member in their new family they can play with. It's whatever is best for the "family" (ie, the pair coming in). A bonded pair simply means they were bonded together as "fursiblings" before coming into rescue and we want to be able to keep them together rather than putting them thru the trauma of separating them.

Name: Lana
Estimated Age: DOB: 11-18-2003
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Arrival Story: Lana, the little bullie bear, has been a little sad for her first couple of days in rescue... and understandably so. She is 6 years old, and has been with her surrendering family since she was just a 12 week old puppy. Unfortunately they've had a rough time in this economy and they lost their home. They now live in a condo where they cannot have a dog over 50 pounds... and there's no hiding the weight on this little girl! Also as a result of their tough financial position, she hasn't been to the vet in over 2 years, so please keep your fingers crossed for a clean bill of health. Lana's family was very sad to be giving her up, but they wanted her to have a chance at a great life with a new, qualified forever family. They want her to have the life she deserves.
Bio: Seeing Lana in her original environment, it is obvious that she is a happy, sweet little girl. While she is definitely a bigger bully, she was very gentle with her family where one of the members was a 2 year old little boy. She loves to play and be social, but like all bulldogs she loves to sleep as well! We've been following the Adopt-A-Bull transition tips, so she has spent some time getting accustomed to her crate and is adjusting quite well. Lana has a sweet disposition- very mild mannered and relaxed. She gets along with my 2 bulldog boys who can sometimes be a handful, and she seems to be quite submissive. She is completely house trained, and she will sleep in a crate or on a blanket you lay out for her. While we still need some time to get to know her better, Lana seems to be the perfect little bully girl and she would make a great addition to any family!

*** AABR does not have custody of this dog, we are posting this listing as a courtesy to the owner. Roscoe is an Olde English Bulldogge. Please contact owner, Anthony: 954-740-1481 ***
I got Rosco when he was 1 year old. I have always loved the bullies and stumbled upon him in classified ads. Apparently the owner wanted to get rid of him because he was moving. My wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, fell in love. The only issue was I could not have dogs in my condo. I was pretty beaten up about it for a few days until my father in law said he would take him if the condo association gave me a problem. Well that was all I needed to hear. I picked him up that night and surprised my wife. We moved into our pet friendly townhouse in ‘07 and he has been ours ever since. We adopted a playmate for him from the Humane Society named Annie (lil orphan Annie) sweetest thing in the world. They immediately hit it off and she became the alpha female. They were great together. At first he is a typical bully doing the leaning and nudging but he is all show. He is a big softy and gets along with all breeds once they hang out for a bit. We ended up giving Annie to my niece and nephew because there dog had died and they absolutely loved Annie. Annie was a ball of energy and she needed room to run. So she is living with my sister in a big yard and loves every minute of it. So now it was back to just us.
Rosco did not mind one bit and still doesn’t. He loves the dog park and the water. He is not as big on the long walks because his left rear leg tends to stiffen up after too much exercise. For his age he is pretty active and loves to buddy up and follow you around. He can be a little rambunctious when new people come in but he settles down after a few pets and minutes. He has never bitten anyone and was a huge chewer back in the day.
My wife and I recently had a baby girl who is now 1 ½ months old. My wife stays home but I work full time then come home and help with the baby so Rosco is not getting the attention he deserves. He is a great dog and will make someone very happy. He is up to date on all of his shots and flea and tick meds. He should be with older kids say 10 and up just because he tends to jump and play around a bit. He knows the commands, sit, stay and lay down. But a typical bully he is a little stubborn and it may take a few tries. He loves the Bully Stick and any type of stuffed animal. His chewing has slowed greatly and I learned that lesson after a lot of shoes and remote controls. I really do love this bully, he is not just my first dog but also my buddy. If you sit and relax he will do the same. Just a scratch behind the ears or by the tail and you made a new best friend. Whoever decides to open up their home to Rosco will not be disappointed.

Name: Belle
Estimated Age: DOB: 2-20-08
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Little baby Belle! What a sweet, happy bullie she is. Her momma had to give her up after a personal crisis that led her to move out of the country. How sad she must have been to give up this wonderful girl. Baby Belle is a petite girl who is a bit overweight at the moment...but slimming down nicely, thank you very much! This is especially important for her because the extra weight she is carrying is really causing her unnecessary trouble. On new surfaces or slippery ones she may lose her grip and fall...oopsa daisy! But this little sprite just gets back up and she's on her merry way...no big whoop for her! Per our orthopedic specialist, there is nothing to be done surgically for her, her hips are typical bulldog hips, but shedding some pounds should help dramatically. With her last weigh-in showing her at 37 pounds, Belle would be perfect for someone who wants a smaller bullie who is easier to handle than her 60+ pound counterparts. Belle is just so sweet and lovable! We are constantly overwhelmed with how cute she is! Belle is the perfect family dog because she loves people (was raised with a toddler), dogs, and even tolerates cats. She has such a loving and submissive nature and would enjoy nothing more than a soft bed and someone to love her. Oh, and the best thing of all - she doesn't snore! Her foster mom says, "she is the sweetest, cuddliest little bullie in the perfect-sized package!" Wouldn't you love to make her your own? Shell be there with "bells" on!!!

Estimated Age: 3
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
This dog is sitting at a vet clinic with a broken femur. Late last week he was ran over by his owners and they surrendered him to the vet because they didn't want him anymore. He is a very young bulldog and was already heartworm positive! The owners opted NOT to treat for heartworms but eventually their vet shamed them into it. The vet had been trying to get custody of the dog because he had knowledge of the owners not taking proper care of him. He was living outside and not being fed consistently. Now, unfortunately, was the vets chance to take the dog. The owners signed him over to the vet and then the vet called AABR. This poor bullie boy was supposed to have surgery last night, until the surgeon that does surgeries for this particular vet clinic realized he didn't have the proper hardware (screws) to do it. Today, we will pick him up and transfer him to our orthopedic specicialist who will perform the operation first thing tomorrow morning. Please help us by donating to save this guy, the surgery will cost approx $1800.
6-22-10 Update: Stewie's surgery was successful and he is recovering in AABR foster care! We have discovered he is still heartworm positive (he never did complete treatment) and has the absolute worst case of tapeworms we have ever seen. Stewie is being treated for all his ailments and although he has quite a few weeks of rest & rehab ahead of him, this squishy faced pup will be all better in no time.

Name: JACK
Estimated Age: 7
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Jack is a 7 year old rolly polly bully boy! He’s very overweight at the moment, but that just means he has extra wrinkles and his squishiness factor is 100 times over! Jack is not enjoying his new diet very much, but one thing he does love is to play with toys. He absolutely loves all his new toys and perhaps a bit too much! He can barely part with them long enough to take a poop, he takes the toys with him even when doing this! Bwahhhhh!!! Jack is a great dog, he is such a lovebug and sweetheart but needs a strong, alpha owner. He is crate trained and will tolerate walks, BUT HE LOVES PLAYING SOCCER! It is a great way for him to lose weight and loosen up his joints, his age and the way he sits makes his hips stiff. He rather be with his family than in his crate and will join on any adventure. He needs "bully" strong toys because he has a strong jaw and most "regular" toys do not survive :). It is suggested that he finds a home with bully experience, kids in their teens or older or no children. It is not known if he is good with cats. Jack is a sweet, stubborn soul, happy & content with a bone in his mouth and his mandated daily belly rub. Jack needs a forever home, but will settle for a foster home in the meantime!

Arrival Story: “Mikki” was recently a mother; she gave birth around December 16th to 9 mix puppies. (Only 6 survived from the information the owner disclosed.) We found Mikki being sold on the internet recently and were able to rescue her. We were absolutely astonished about the condition this new mother was in and were anticipating a poor report from the vet. Surprisingly, Mikki is heartworm negative and her blood work is good. Her overall condition is now fabulous & she's ready for adoption!
Bio: For all she has been through, Mikki is such a sweet girl. She does not care for all the medical attention she gets but she just takes it like a trooper. She is playful but not really that into toys, however, she does like to chase cats! She is good with Tyra (her bullie sister) but not with all other dogs, especially yappy ones. Mikki is very submissive to humans and loves each and every person she meets. She has a great appetite and she's energetic. She does not complain much which is good because whining is not a good trait. She is a really well behaved lady. We have begun some light fun activities like sit and stay and she does good but not great (typical bully).
Personality: Sweet gal submissive with a lot of love to give the right home.

Brief Description:
If you had 2 English Bulldogs that you were trying to re-home who were living in your backyard, a mother and son pair ages 7 and 5, (so you claim) covered in fleas, filthy dirty, past due on everything medical including state required rabies, both un-sterilized, and 1 with a cleft palate - don't you think you'd want to surrender them to rescue, to an organization that would actually take care of them and raise the funds needed to ensure their health and get all surgeries needed.... right?!?!? Of course not! You'd rather sell them for $200 and want nothing to do with rescue! After 3 failed "selling" attempts to just any Joe Schmoe that responds to your online ad, you are persistent in your "$200 firm" and you'd rather just get the cash and hand them off to a complete stranger - makes perfect sense to me too! Soooooooo, you force the rescue to get sneaky- they send a friend (who is really a rescue volunteer) to contact you to play as an interested buyer.... your 4th interested buyer. Behind the scenes, on the opposite end of the coast, you are totally unaware that a couple of rescue mommies are trying to get some cash together to Western Union the money over to your 4th potential buyer. Little do you know, this "seller" is actually going to be the only person to actually complete the transaction and get these precious bullie the love and care that they have been denied their whole lives. To be continued....

Name: Courage
Estimated Age: DOB: 5-25-09
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Meet Courage - the reason we have been going crazy these last couple days. It all started when we saw this ad online: Free special needs English bulldog. She is roughly 10 tall and weighs 35 lbs. We have been treating her for allergies and fleas but she has not regrown her hair. It would be a wast to put her down, but I am getting faced with no other option. She is 1 yr old.
Upon speaking with the author of the ad above, we found out he was a breeder. He lives out in Baker County, FL and has 3 acres of land where puppies - grandparents run free. We told him who we were and what we do & conviced him to let us have Courage, opposed to just some Joe Schmoe responding to his ad wanting a free puppy but unaware of the whole situation. Courage has been living outside on 3 acres since birth. There are 3 generations living on the 3 acres, BYB at it's best, horrible and unthinkable conditions and my mouth just hung open as this breeder continued to talk to me over the phone. Turns out that little Courage is the only survior of 3 litters. All previous bad litters per breeder were either all stillborn, never carried to term by female or were solid white blind & deaf. He even gave me his website to see, he breeds most Olde English Bulldogs, but none the less, I thought I was going to barf. I acted like I was his friend and agreed with everything he said, I'd do anything just to save this one bullie girl and get the info I needed so later I could report him.
We acted quickly to arrange transport to pick up Courage. The breeder refused to hold her until the morning for us, so we had just 4 hours to get her. Finally, we found a nice volunteer to drive over and hour and a half just to pick her up. He did so and brought her back to his home in Jax. The next day we arranged a 6 person bullie railroad from Jacksonville Beach to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Thank you to all involved in this very emotional rescue. I personally have yet to meet this bullie girl, several of you will meet her before I do as she travels down the entire east coast of FL to get to AABR headquarters. This page will be updated with the offical results of her medical status once all the pending tests come back from the lab.

8-12-10 Update: Courage has severe ear infections in both ears that contain yeast, bacteria and very resistant "rods". They are cleaned every 4 hours with medicated flush. The swelling has gone down and the discharge is not as bad. Her ears are looking better (although they still smell awful!). She has become very itchy and continues to scratch herself until she bleeds. She also has spots on her body that are oozing. Therefore, we have decided to change her treatment regimen in hopes that she sees faster improvement and will be more comfortable. Although she's still very shy and afraid, she's beginning to feel more secure. She almost always walks upright now (as opposed to a low scared crawl when we first got her). She has met a few people without showing too much fear. She still has a long way to go, but hopefully we'll start to see improvement soon. When a dog is this far gone from mange, it is a looong road to recovery! (Dated pic below)
8-21-10 Update: Courage has gone to a new foster home a few counties north of us. She is now living with a vet who is continuing her treatment. Already an update from her new foster mommie: "We had a good trip home. She slept hard and then worked on the kong w/frozen canned food that I brought for her. We stopped at the hospital to pick up the girls and I stained her right eye while we were there. She has a little abscess in the center of her cornea so I started her on some drops for that. She is fitting right in at home- helped feed the cats, ate a big dinner, got her medicine and her ear stuff. Got my first kiss after the ear massage! She is napping on her big pink bed right now. Thank you guys for saving her. She is a sweetie!"

Name: ROCKY III
Estimated Age: DOB: 5-19-03
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Rocky is a total mush, 60 pounds of pure sweetheart! He is such an affectionate rolly polly bully. There is nothing he loves more than being with humans and getting lots of attention. He is very submissive and very smart. You would never ever know he is 7 years old, because he's still active and very playful! Rocky gets along with all dogs, cats and children too! He doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body, and is actually extremely sybmissive. He is operated on his right knee for a torn acl, when he was 2 years old or so. He is fully recovered from his injury now. Rocky’s tail is kinky & coiled and needs to be cleaned and maintained to avoid infection. Rocky suffers from dry eye but this is manageable with daily cyclosporine drops. Rocky loves to play and take naps on laps, he also LOVES treats, getting them is the highlight of his day. Basically, Rocky is a spoiled Bulldog, but he is so cute you just have to love him. Rocky is afraid of water (such as the pool) but doesn’t mind the beach. He loves baths. Isn’t protective of his food or water. He loves to pay fetch but doesn’t have the giving you back the ball part down. Rocky knows "sit", "down", and "roll over" and even knows how to give you alternating paws. It is so cute when he rolls over; he does it perfectly despite his big bulbous body. His owner gave him up not because of a lack of love but because of a lack of means of giving him the attention and treatment he needs. While in AABR care, Rocky has been neutered and got his elongated soft palate surgically trimmed. Rarely would we say this, but a crate is NOT necessary for Rocky because he is 100% housebroken, trained and does not (and most likely will not) develop any behavioral problems that would require the use of one.

Name: Darby
Estimated Age: 13 months (DOB 6-28-09)
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Where else can you get same day service and free pick up at your door?!?!?!? Darby's arrival story: Darby's owner called us this morning, he's leaving the state tomorrow and must find placement for his bullie ASAP. I spent from 10am - 4pm convincing him thru several emails, text messages and phone conversation that AABR was the better alternative than what he planned on doing..... giving Darby to a friend who had an unneutered male EB and wanted to breed them!!!! After many back and forths, I almost gave up mid-day and assumed for sure after my 30 minute rant to him about why these dogs should NOT be bred that he would definitely NOT follow thru with the surrender, but GOD had another plan for Darby. She is now safe with us and has been signed over to AABR! Thank you to Auntie Jill for picking up Darby all the way in S Miami and bringing her all the way to Mommie Erica's house. Darby is safe and will NOT be a bred ever! We already have an appointment at our vet tomorrow for her to be spayed! YEA!!!
Darby is a happy, healthy, playful bullie girl! She is totally goofy, which is expected for a year old pup. She gets along with other dogs, cats, and children.Though young children should not get to close because she loves to play bullystyle (a little rough) and tends to jump. Since she is still a puppy and acts like a puppy (RIP leather shoe), she needs a firm owner who can continue to help her learn how to be a good bully girl. She needs to be played with, get exercise, and long walks since she is full of energy. She also needs toys to keep her occupied or she will find items to chew on. Darby is still a pup; eager to please, needs positive guidance to learn how to grow up to be the best bully she can be, and lots of activity. She gets along with other dogs and has been socialized as a puppy by visiting dog parks and making new friends. One thing about Darby is that she is very vocal, she doesn't seem to like being crated or baby gated and will let you know it by barking her head off. She much prefers human companionship over anything else and will follow you around where ever you go patiently waiting for her butt scratch or head pat. Darby is a bull-ti-full bullie girl and would love to be part of your family. Please express your interest in Darby by completing an adoption application.

Name: Otis
Estimated Age: Between 3 -5
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Introducing: Otis!!!!! He is so excited about meeting you...and everyone else for that matter, including other dogs (even ones that may be a bit rude). He is such a good boy and loves his peeps. Loves attention and isn't very happy when you leave, but he deals with it. Otis is a curious guy and loves squeeky toys & a good Nylabone. He's a fast learner and is getting the whole walking on a leash thing down, and is quickly learning what it means to be a good bullie since he was never really taught that before. As with any dog, Otis will need ongoing training so he continues to learn right from wrong. He tolerates having his folds cleaned and all the other necessary bullie up-keep things. Oh, and if you're looking for a co-pilot on those car trips, Otis is your boy...he loves car rides and hops right in with a big smiley face. What a shame this boy was found as a stray and ultimately rescued by AABR from the pound. He is just gorgeous – how could someone NOT want him?!?! Please fill out an application if you want to meet Otis...he sure wants to meet you!

Name: Addy
Estimated Age: 3
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Addy is a happy, playful, petite bullie girl who is only 3 years old. She is getting along well with her bullie foster siblings. She has a strong prey drive though and has been told she can't be left alone with the cat or Chihuahua anymore. Addy would prefer a home with dogs her same size and/or bigger than her (or even no pets at all...she would love to be the one and only fur-child!). Addy is getting accustomed to the good life now, which includes wrinkle cleaning, ear cleaning, and nail clipping- something she hasn't experienced much of in the past. Addy came to us all the way from Tallahassee and heartworm positive. She was surrendered to an employee of a vet clinic in Orlando. The vet technician contacted Adopt-A-Bull to surrender the dog, but then decided to give Addy to her brother in Tallahassee instead. The young man quickly realized he could not adequately care for Addy and his roommates were giving him a hard time so he needed to find her a new home. Adopt-A-Bull was contacted once again to take her.... But now we had to arrange transport from Tallahassee!! A big THANK YOU to all of our transport volunteers for getting this girl down to us on such short notice. She is ready for the life she deserves. Addy is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, crate trained, and ready for you to take her home! Please remember: no cats or small dogs with Addy; she much prefers one of one attention from humans and is just an absolute love bug. Thank you :)

Name: Duke
Estimated Age: 18 months
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
From the Shelter: "Duke is a registered, male English Bulldog, approximately 18 months of age. He is white with brindle markings. Unfortunately, he has "cherry eye" in both eyes and is an owner-surrender because the owner could not afford to have this condition corrected. Duke is a character and makes all sorts of snorts and noises, sounding almost like a pygmy goat crying. He is housebroken and must be kept cool during the summer months, as this breed is highly susceptible to overheating quickly due to the conformation of their face, mouth and nose. He is extremely friendly and affectionate and you can tell he has been raised with love."
Arrival Story: Duke was surrendered to a shelter in Louisiana after his owners had him living outside with severely infected cherry eyes. After calling the shelter just to make sure this 18 month old boy was not in danger, we surprisingly discovered that he was! With no adopters or any other rescue stepping forward we decided to do whatever it took to save him. The shelter was kind enough to transport Duke over to a local vet that agreed to board Duke for a week until we got the transport arranged. While Duke was boarding, they would neuter him and attempt to tack down his HUGE cherry eyes. A ground transport railroad was formed but at the last minute, our first leg backed out. With no other volunteers in the area, we booked a one way flight to Baton Rouge picked Duke up and drove 15 hours straight back to S. FL. It is apparent that first cherry eye surgery attempt was unsuccessful so on August 18th, 2010, Duke will be going to our eye specialist for cherry eye surgery take 2!
Bio: Duke is such a bully-doll and has fully recovered from his cherry eye tacking surgery. All he wants to do is explore his new digs and meet his foster sister Pudge! He makes the cutest bullie noises when he first goes back into his crate but he quiets down quickly and hangs out. Duke goes potty right away when we take him outside and hasn't had any accidents inside the house. He is great on walks and does so well during bath time! He gets so excited it's hard to clean his face, ears and tail pocket but he doesn't seem to mind it, he just wants a butt rub! Duke is 44 pounds and gets along with other dogs, although he can be quite obnoxious and intimidate older/smaller dogs at times with his energy level. Duke is an absolute love bug and likes to act as your personal shadow.

Name: Pebbles 2
Estimated Age: DOB: 6-11-03
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Pebbles was surrendered to Adopt-A-Bull by her most recent owners. They obtained her about 4 months ago from a neighbor who was not treating her right and neglected medical care. Pebbles has had quite a life in her 6 years on this earth. Where do we begin.... Pebbles was purchased from a breeder back in 2003. Due to a botched spay, the surgery left her urinary incontinent. Her owners no longer allowed her to live inside the house due to this condition so Pebbles lived outside in the scorching Florida heat. Apparently, Pebbles was NOT very happy with her new living conditions as she often ran away from home. Neighbors would find her wandering in the streets time and time again and would return her back to her owners, until the last time... her owners told the neighbor they didn't want her anymore and admitted to abusing Pebbles. Pebbles is such a sweet girl, she's the perfect example of a lazy couch potato! At times she can be stubborn like any other bullie, but this special girl really loves her quiet time and loves to cuddle. Her absolute favorite thing is to roll belly up to get a good scratching and she'll stay like this until you stop. She is great with other dogs and tends to be on the submissive side. She is very shy around new dogs, good with children once she gets to know them and feels comfy.
Update: Pebbles has come a long way from when she first came to our rescue program. After years of being mistreated Pebbles was quite shy at first and was continually afraid that she would be hit. The healing began the second she was rescued by Adopt-A-Bull. We made Pebbles a promise that she would never be abused or mistreated again... Pebbles is so wonderful and we think she is finally starting to understand what being a dog really means… never being hit, having a comfy bed that is all hers, given treats and toys, going for walks, riding in cars, lots of belly rubs every day, having people that love her and treat her well, and being able to lay around with no worries in the world…all she is missing is a family to call her own. It has taken a little bit but Pebbles has definitely come out of her shell. She is playing with toys now and even gets burst of energy where she runs around wiggling non-stop. She is an absolutely amazing dog. She is so well behaved and is even learning some tricks. Her newest is shake and high 5! Pebbles loves to hang out and sleep by your feet. And loves human beds… not that she is allowed to be on beds in foster care… but she would love to hangout on a bed or couch and sleep for hours with you. She loves lounging around and chewing on her tennis ball and bone. Pebbles absolutely loves going for walks, she would walk forever…but we make sure her walks aren’t very long because we don’t want Pebbles to overheat. She is also a perfect angel in the bathtub, because she knows when the bath is over it’ll be her favorite part… getting dried off with the towel. She is convinced this is actually a massage and LOVES IT! We bath her frequently because Pebbles has such a beautiful coat; it is so thick and soft. She really love the ocean too! On a hot day she loves to lie in the shallow end, which is good because most bulldogs don't swim. Pebbles is also wonderful with kids, she loves our 2 and 4-year-old nephews. She loves being around them and is so gentle. She would probably prefer a home that is more on the quieter side though, because she prefers a calm atmosphere. It’s understandable after all she has gone though. Pebbles has urinary incontinence but we would never guess she has anything wrong. She takes a pill in the morning when she eats and same at night… it makes her all better. Don’t let the urinary incontinence scare you away from Pebbles, she is completely house broken and has never had an accident in the house! That’s more then we can say about our own dog :) All she needs is her pills and you would never even know she has it. We can’t say enough about how great of a dog she is. Pebbles deserves a wonderful family that would give her all the love she has been waiting for. All Pebbles wants in life is a family that she can call her own. Pebbles has defiantly touched our lives and we can’t wait for her to touch someone else’s life. After all she has been through, doesn’t this sweet girl deserve a family to call her own?

Name: ZAK
Estimated Age: 18 months
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Are you ready for a Zak attack? Zak is a sweet & loveable bullie who craves attention and gives a lot of love in return...to people, other dogs, and everyone he meets! He's a young boy who has a lot of energy, especially now that he can actually see! When Zak came to us, he was in desperate need of bilateral entropion eye surgery on all 4 eyelids. The first thing we did was take him to the eye specialist to have this done and now he "can see cleary now, AABR has come!" Zak enjoys running and playing with his foster mom in the back yard and taking walks. But then again, he's got a lot of new things to experience now that he's in rescue! He is getting used to being crate trained even though he's not quite sure about it yet. But with some toys and a Nylabone, he's learning that's his safe place to go. The only thing Zak doesn't like is the dark (but who knows when the boogie man is lurking so who can blame him?). So his foster mommy leaves a nightlight on and he's fine. So if you're looking for a bullie who'll be your sidekick and best friend, hurry and fill out an application before he goes home with someone else. Don't miss your opportunity to adopt this precious bullie boy.

Name: Boulder
Estimated Age: 3
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Boulder is big, young, and energetic! He's a good boy, though, so you don't have to worry too much about destruction and mayhem that can sometimes occur with big young dogs. He's potty trained and won't try to drag you all over creation during walks. He loves his walks (usually three times per day, one in the morning and two in the late afternoon, evening) but don't forget all bulldogs are heat sensitive and will stay out as long as you let them. Be aware of the heat and the time you've had him out. Boulder has a bit of a skin infection currently that gives him some bald spots. We call him the bald Dalmatian sometimes. The spots don't seem to bother him. It's just one of his quirks, but will be completely resolved once he's ready for his furever home. Boulder is a love monger. Even if you're just walking by, he'll roll over and beseech you to rub his chest. He'll take all the love you've got to give. He doesn't seem to be a couch jumper, but once or twice, he has gotten into the garbage. Whether you choose to put the garbage in a high place when leaving home, or just decide to crate him will work just fine. He doesn't bark or whine if crated, but if you put the garbage up high, the crating doesn't seem to be necessary. Boulder LOVES toys. He'll really want you to try to take them from him and he is going to sound like he's going to eat your face off, but he's just enjoying the play. Boulder is also not food protective. You can walk by and even move his bowl when he's eating. He won't respond negatively. He doesn't do any tricks....yet. He's starting to learn "sit" and then we'll start working on "shake" unless you want to adopt him and teach him yourself. (Hee hee) Boulder loves EVERYONE. He might try to jump up on new people, but responds and obeys when you correct the behavior. Boulder is a good good boy and would fit into just about any household dynamic. He's a lover and you're gonna love him.

Name: Wilson (Bull Terrier)
Estimated Age: 3
Adoption Status: This dog is is available for Adoption!
Brief Description:
Wilson is a young, sweet, bull terrier who was so happy to have AABR spring him from his jail cell, which was actually more like his saving grace. You see, Wilson was picked up by the city as a stray with no microchip or ID on him. A day later, his owner came forward and wanted him back. After the shelter told her about all the fees she would have to pay resulting from his impound and the charges she’d be facing for animal cruelty, she voluntarily surrendered him over the phone. Wilson was smiling, and you could tell he was thankful when we arrived. Thin, not emaciated, with big swollen paws, Wilson is about 3 years old and full grown at 47 pounds. He only has little patches of hair left, spotted with ticks, and big scabs on the top of his spine. He just needs to put on about 10lbs, grow some hair back and he’ll be just stunning! After a comprehensive vet visit, our prayer was answered. Thankfully, we are just dealing with demodex mange and not scabies! During his examination, the vet discovered a few bite/puncture wounds on his neck, arms and back. Wilson will be fixed up and recover in a foster home after his 1 week quarantine at the vet is up and then will be vaccinated and neutered when his immune system is stronger. What a sweet, darling boy! He has the absolute best temperament and even while he was on the exam table for 30 minutes enduring poking, prodding, tick removal and 3 different areas on his body skin scraped, he was just perfect and tolerant of it all! Wilson is so fortunate he found safety with those that will actually care about him now and we are so happy to have him!
