LOST DOGS: Meatloaf & Meatball!

Posted January 7, 2010 4:42 pm

These 2 bullies ran away from home late Tuesday night. They have a doggie door that they come and go as they please thru, but the backyard gate was mistakenly left open by their owners. The owners did not realize they we gone until the next day at noon! In the meantime, around 9pm Tuesday evening a good Samaritan found the duo sitting on her front porch in 40 degree weather cold and lost. They had no collar, leash, tags, or identifying information. She took them in and called Adopt-A-Bull the next morning. We met up and took custody of the dogs. We scanned them for a chip and they did have chips, but they were not registered to anyone. Found signs were posted in the area and they were reported to the County Animal care and regulation. Today, Meatloaf and Meatball - male and female 1 year and 5 years - were reunited with their family.

We called our contacts at the county shelter and asked what the consequences would have been if the dogs were turned into their facility or they got involved. They told us that the owners would have been charged an impounding fee, boarding charges and a fine for the male being unsterilized (not being neutered), and that they would have received 2 citations for their dogs being at large for which they had to comply with the courts for. Everything totaled $428.00 and they probably would have gotten their dogs back with flea/ticks and kennel cough from being at the shelter. Instead, these 2 bullies made some new friends, got their ears, faces, nose ropes and butts cleaned while spending time in warm comfy homes with lots of love and attention. We were so sad to see them leave, but hope the owner learns a very valuable lesson. (Thank you for the donation dad, we just hope your check doesn't bounce. If it does, we know where you live ;) )

Cookie-Frodo-Nora-Wigglet!

Posted January 5, 2010 6:41 pm

Cookie is finally just about ready for adoption! It's been a year and a half since Cookie first came to us and we could not be happier that she's almost ready for her fur-ever home.... could it be yours?

Nora's taking it easy. She's so adore-a-bully sweet and easy going. Her next 12-16 weeks of activity restriction while she goes thru heartworm treatment are going to be very easy on us if she keeps this up. You can see in the 2nd pic... No, she's not sleeping - her eyes hurt so she squints bad. :( Poor girl, we are giving her eye ointment at elast 3x a day, but that's not enough relief. We are anxious to have her eye surgery done as soon as we safely can.

And of course, no blog is ever complete without at least a mention of our miracle puppy:

Millie and Bugzy!

Posted January 2, 2010 7:09 pm

Here are some pictures of Millie and Bugzy. They are so adorable, loving and funny. Millie is very spoiled, it takes me about 20 minutes to wake her up because she's a princess and she needs her beauty rest. Bugzy is great, he knows how to sit and give paw. He doesn't like baths or the epsom salt soaks. It's actually very hard to get him into the shower or the jacuzzi because he becomes dead weight, but once he gets in he doesn't give us any trouble. Hope you enjoy the pictures of Millie and Bugzy. They will both available for adoption soon. They are NOT a boned pair, but could potentially be adopted together.

Short Bullie Briefings - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Posted January 1, 2010 12:38 pm

Frodo: supposed to get neutered Wed. it never happened. He's still at the vet for observation. This boy is a really weird breather. We are just making sure nothing is wrong with him before we put him under. If all goes well, he's scheduled to be neutered on Monday. He is boarding at the vet until then.

Abby: Just got adopted this morning! She got adopted to a wonderful family with 3 kids and 2 Chugs. She will be calling Maryland her new home!

Bruno II: Also to be adopted today. His mommie and daddy are on their way down from NC and she be arriving later today.

Wigglet: Is still sleeping from all her festivities and hard partying last night!

Dozer IV: His new family is currently on their way down from Virginia to finalize his adoption tomorrow.

Millie: Improving slowly, but steadily in foster care with Bugsy, she's still in rough shape but getting better.

Nora: Is home and happy to be reunited with her friends! She was picked up from the vet yesterday and had her first injection for her heartworm treatment. She returns to the vet in 1 month for her next series of injections. She's on activity restriction for the next 3 - 4 months.

Shakespeare, Bentley, Paige & Sally Sue are pending adoption with their foster homes!

Gummy, Brownie, Skyler, Priscilla, Pebbles 2, Tater, Harley, Wilbur, Spencer, Kira and the others are still looking for their furever homes!

Happy New Year from Adopt-A-Bull! Especially from Zana & Wigglet!

Bad news for Nora just discovered :(

Posted December 30, 2009 5:47 pm
Nora will NOT be getting spayed or have her entropion surgery today as planned. We dropped her off at the vet earlier this morning. They did her pre-surgical bloodwork and all the standard testing we do on new intake bullies and it was discovered she is HEARTWORM POSITIVE!!!! :( We are beyond disappointed and angry - we are furious! Not only will the surgeries be delayed for an indefinite period of time, but today x-rays were taken and Nora received her first heartworm injection. She will be staying overnight at the vet and tomorrow she'll have her second injection. Please put (and keep) your dogs on heartworm preventative! Heartworm disease kills! Nora will go thru these painful heartworm injections in an attempt to save her life. Our goal is to kill the worms while preserving her life. The treatments are not only painful, but are risky and can take a very severe toll on the dog. Please keep Nora in your prayers. She must be on activity restriction/crate confinement for the next 12-16 weeks until her treatments are complete and she has recovered enough to undergo her spay and eye surgeries at that time. Many generous people have donated thru our facebook postings already today and many have inquiried about how much $ we need. Let us just put it to you this way: for her spay, entropion eye surgery on both eyes, heartworm treatment, x-rays, meds, vaccines, rabies shot, blood test, etc. = $1000 on the conservative side and that's with our rescue discount - Thanks Dr. Sands :) Even with the discounts, it's a small fortune we must raise to help this sweet girl. Please help us, help her if you are able. Thanks.

Zana Update

Posted December 29, 2009 7:36 pm

Zana went in for another vet check up yesterday because her foster Mommy was concerned about the mystery sores and their depth. While we are all still speculating, foster Mom believes it was caused by a possible reaction to the latex (verified to be latex by vet) in the water bottles used to keep her warm during her almost FOUR hours being under anestesia. We do NOT believe the vet was negligent as we would not take any bully to a place where we didn't already have faith in the physician and her compassion for our breed. This is the strangest thing any of us have seen...including the veterinarian. Rest assured, her future pawrents will be made aware of this potentially life threatening allergy that may exist in her. The good news, however, is Zana is mostly oblivious to the sores thanks to her cone. She is on pain medicine and antibiotics to prevent pain and infection and her foster Mommy works from home and monitors her all the time. Most days she enjoys hanging out with her brudders and sisters and when its nice outside, sitting or laying outside getting some fresh air. Her teeth have healed but will need to be brushed regularly the rest of her life because food tends to "stick". Fortunately, she is a good sport about everything....she has NEVER shown any aggression towards her foster Mom, anyone at the vets, etc....even when poking and prodding were happening. She no longer needs eye drops or ear drops, just regular cleaning, yaaa! She still limps as we knew she would but that is what the pain meds are for....she will likely need these in her furever home but it shouldn't be more than the cost of a few dollars a month according to the Doctor. Well worth it to keep her comfy...because she really loves short walks! Thanks to everyone for your outpouring of love through your words, prayers and donations. All are equally important to us in more ways than you could possibly know. Would you also considering giving Zana a furever home or spread the word? Fill out an application today and she might be yours furever in just a few weeks!

Zana Update.

Zana is being fostered in the Orlando area. Once recovered she will be up for adoption. The sad part is that Zana healed nicely from her mass removals and spay surgery. These just festered and got nastier as the rest of her healed. Not at all like a normal "burn" as we would imagine...hence the reason we are all stumped by them. She has been in rescue since November 7th and still has a way to go before being ready to adopt. Please consider donating for her medical issues and if you have a really BIG Cushy bed, she could use one of those as well permanently :)
