Pumpkin, our first spina bifida baby all grown up!

Posted January 8, 2010 4:47 pm

Lacey is doing wonderful. She is now 1 1/2 years old and a bundle of joy. She's still the same weight of 33 lbs. She still is a pooper (having spina bifida) but that's what makes her my baby.

Lacey (aka Punkin) is doing great. Still pooping and peeing in the diaper. Her sphinxter is tightening as she grows and is fully puckering now. She is a fisty little girl. (Full of sh%#. If you know what I mean.) She weighs 34lbs and just had a really bad bad bought with Demodex. (MANGE). She is doing a lot better. 3 months ago we almost lost her due to the mange. The only thing that worked for her was a topical called Premeris. She is highly allergic to Ivermectin. Will send more pictures in June on her B-day.

Our little baby is so big!!!!

Update from Adopter: "Lacey's butt is doing much better. I changed her food and she now has no blood or redness back there. She weighs a whopping 25lbs and she is running with the other bullies. I am waiting to have her surgery until she is full grown. She is such a luv and a great addition to our family."

Happy Holidays from Pumpkin...aka Lacey!

New Pumpkin Pics & Update

I TOOK LACEY TO ANOTHER SPECIALISTS BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN LOOSING HER MOTOR SKILLS IN HER BACK LEGS. SHE DOES HAVE SPINA-BIFIDA, THE NERVES AT THE END OF HER SPINE ARE NO GOOD. SHE NEEDS A CART. SHE ALSO NEEDS A ANAL SPHINCTER. I FEEL SO BAD FOR HER BECAUSE HER BUTT IS SO RAW AND BLOODY. THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR IT TILL SHE GETS A NEW ANAL SPINCTOR. SHE IS GOING THROUGH A 52 PACK OF LINERS FOR HER DIAPERS EVERY 3 DAYS. A LOT OF CHANGES SO SHE DOESN'T GET URINARY INFECTIONS. SHE IS SO ADORABLE. HERE ARE SOME PICTURES I TOOK TODAY.

Pumpkin Medical Update...

Posted September 17, 2008 2:35 pm
This update is from Pumpkin's (aka Lacey) new adoptive mommie :
Pumpkin (re-named Lacey by her new mommy) has permanent neurological damage and will always be urine/fecal incontinent. In addition, she does not have a anal sphincter but does have the anal band (butt hole). Which is good and bad news. Bad news is she will need a sphincter transplant when she reaches adult size. Good news is the prognosis for surgery is good because she has an anal band. Without a sphincter, poop comes out 24/7 and leads to a multitude infections. Having this surgery will help prevent the likely hood of chronic urinary and colon infections. Unfortunately, the surgery is very expensive, around $6,000. I will be working on saving and raising the money to get it done for her. Lacey is a "little piggy" and loves her food. She's getting bigger, at the vet she weighed 11 lbs 9 oz! She is a handful, but I love her. She's very smart, mouthy, but smart. She started taking her diapers off... she goes under the dining room table and rubs it 'till it falls of. She is now sleeping through the night too. (Thank God) LOL
