Millie, Wigglet, Hamlet!

Posted December 14, 2009 7:01 pm

Millie spent her first 3 days in rescue at our vet getting tested and diagnosed. She is heartworm negative, extremely yeasy, and has double ear and eye infections. Overall she is in good health, he blood work came back good. She's on a series of medications daily combined with bi-weekly medicated baths, and a two week injection to help with her skin issues. When she was released from the vet on Sat. she went straight into foster care with Mommie Dianna. Here's an update from her foster mom: "I wanted to let you know how Millie was doing... last night when we got home she was exploring the whole house and found her new favorite spot.... the doggie bed. Suprisingly she is Potty Trained and she knows the command SIT!, which is suprising considering the circumstances that she was living in! She is extremely sweet! We were able to give her, her medication and clean her eyes with no problems. This morning when she woke up we took her out. She had breakfast and then the we began the process of giving her, her meds, bathing her, cleaning her ears and her eyes... she did GREAT! I'm sending you a bunch of pictures. Thanks for trusting us with her, we're excited to see her progress into a happy, healthy Princess Bully."

Wigglet is doing great! She's 34 days old today and weighs exactly 3.00 pounds! Her new favorite thing to do is go #2 and then walk right in it! Ha! She has so many teeth now and they are sharp! She loves testing her new choopers out!

Congrats on your homes Pebbles 2, Roxxie, Big T & Weezie! Welcome Fat Boy!

Wigglet Update & Holiday Photos with Winston!

Posted December 11, 2009 11:31 pm

Wigglet is getting stronger day by day. Her personality is really starting to emerge. She has teeth now, so she's off the bottle eating mushed up puppy food mixed with baby food. We had to switch her puppy food because she kept vomiting and we were afraid she'd aspirate. As of yesterday, Wigglet weighed in at 2 lbs, 7 oz.

Auntie Cathy from MidAtlantic Bulldog Rescue in NJ came down to visit us in S. FL. We met on the beach with Brutis & Winston IV and had dinner together :)

Millie Update

Posted December 9, 2009 10:10 pm
Millie had a rough night, her first night in rescue, she spent most of it whining and howling. She refused to come in the house and seemed very content after finding a baby pool on my outdoor lanai. I let her stay in it, gave her a bone, a blanket, and set up a few fans outside on the patio to keep her cool. She slept right thru the night like a perfect angel. When morning came, her eyes were literally glued shut with infection and gunk, warm compresses, eye flush and medication helped for the next 2 hours, but then it was time to repeat the medicine regimen. When the afternoon came, it was time for her vet appointment. Millie went to the vet and is staying there for treatment, testing, and an overall medical diagnosis. Stay tuned, updates to come.

Welcome to rescue, Millie!

Today (12-8-09) we welcome Millie to rescue! Millie, formerly Maggie, was found on an internet ad by Foster Mommie, Beth. Millie's owner was sent an email from Adopt-A-Bull Rescue and one from Beth. Mommie Erica thought that Millie was all set to be surrendered to rescue when just then...Beth got a phone call from Millie's owner. Can you believe that she didn't want to Millie to go to rescue??? She didn't want Millie going in to a foster home. She obviously doesn't know about Adopt-A-Bull Rescue foster mommies and daddies!! Anyway, her mom said that she cannot afford to take care of Millie anymore and that she has to do what's best. She said that she needs her ears cleaned and that her nails need to be cut. Also, her eyes have a little of "that guck." After telling Millie's mom what a great home she would have, Beth was told that Millie was hers!!! This was very exciting. (But, of course, we'd have to pay a "re-homing" fee of $75)

Mommie Erica had an angel in her back pocket by the name of Maryanne who saved the day!! Maryanne went to Millie's old house and rescued Millie, in every sense of the word!! This is what Maryanne told us about Millie:

Maggie (now Millie) is 4 1/2 - 5 years old. She has had a litter in the past and none of the puppies survived. Owner could not provide any proof of vaccinations or vet care in the past. She is spayed and has a microchip. Maggie has not been on heartworm meds for 4 months. Maggie is so sweet and gentle. Her eyes are in bad shape looks as if she has lost some or all vision. Her ears smell and are very infected. Her front and back legs are yeasty. She has hair loss too. Her nails are long and paws in bad shape. She has a limp in her walk.

Can you believe that!!! So much for honesty! Maryanne gave Millie two flea baths, dried her off and then just let the poor baby sleep on some nice clean towels with a full belly of fabulous Taste of the Wild food. Maryanne said: "I'm so glad we were able to get her out of there. She is so sweet and in such bad shape. She deserves a second chance at a better life." We all couldn't agree more!! Then, to top the day off, another wonderful volunteer, Brian, drove Millie from Fort Myers to Ft. Lauderdale and into the care of Adopt-A-Bull Rescue. This girl has gone from nothing to look forward to, to having the whole world ahead of her, in about 8 hours. This little girl is going to need a lot of care to get her back to the princess she is, which brings us to her name; Millie. Millie means Strength and Determination. I think that this girl is a perfect representation of both. Keep checking in for updates. Millie's story is far from over!!

Special Thanks to Auntie Maryann for getting Millie and helping us with her "bounty", and also to Brian for his transport help and generous donation towards what are going to be some very high vet bills.

Wigglet Update

Posted December 5, 2009 9:45 pm

Wigglet has been doing great, but today we got worried a little. She threw up a few times after we introduced her to big girl food and her breathing was becoming raspy. Turns out the little Pigglet most likely stuffed her gut too much, we were afraid she had aspirated.... So, off to mentor Judi's house we went... better to be safe than sorry. We hung out at Judi's house for a bit as she examined and observed Wigglet. She looks and sounds good, just has a little bit of congestion in her sinus, perhaps from snorting up her milk/food. She is still very delicate, we must be careful with every little thing. She's doing well :)

From Wiggles' new foster: "Wiggles was nothing but amazing on the drive to our house. She was calmed down by the time we got home. We walked her around the house so she could see everything and took her outside so she could see the backyard. I went to open her crate so I could put the blanket down and she plowed past me so she could get inside it! We kept her separated from Brody until tonight. We brought them outside so they could meet each other. He was sniffing all around her and all she was doing was looking up at me. She truly is a sweetheart! She definitely wants a lot of attention. The second I stop touching her she starts to pounce around for me to start touching her again. She had to have a few time outs for doing that. She's a lover and you can see it when she looks at you! She doesn't seem to be too interested in Brody, she's a very laid back. Just a loving big bullie girl:) If theres anything else you need us to do just let us know. My husband and I would like to volunteer anytime you need us!"
